“In March 2015, my life took a transformative turn when I crossed paths with Dr. Yusuf Hamied, sparking a deep fascination for the pharmaceutical realm. This thrilling journey unfolded through immersive experiences at Cipla’s cutting-edge R&D centre, a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Patalganga, and the renowned Cipla Kurkumbh facility, each unveiling invaluable insights into the dynamic pharmaceutical landscape.
Fast forward to December 2017, a pivotal moment transpired as I shared tea with Dr. Yusuf Hamied, marking the beginning of an extraordinary journey. His words echoed with possibilities, especially about opportunities in Mauritius.
These encounters ignited the birth of a visionary concept: promoting sustainable access to high-quality, affordable medicines through local production. It became clear that a thriving pharmaceutical industry in Mauritius could not only elevate the nation’s healthcare but also make a substantial impact on its socioeconomic progress.
This visionary concept gained momentum, fuelling the establishment of MC-Biotech Ltd in August 2020. The crucial move came in February 2023 when MCBT acquired a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, previously owned by Ajanta Pharma Mauritius Ltd. This strategic leap towards self-sufficiency is a game-changer for Mauritius, liberating it from reliance on imports and positioning MC-Biotech Ltd as a key player in fulfilling the nation’s healthcare needs.”
